McCain is CNN's Larry King's guest for the entire hour tonight at 9 p.m. ET.

CNN learned the negotiations that led to the Romney endorsement included a prominent role by John Weaver, who was McCain's top political strategist until he was forced out in a campaign shakeup last summer.

According to several sources familiar with the talks, Weaver got involved with the blessing -- indeed at the urging -- of two current top McCain advisers, Charlie Black and Steve Schmidt.

Sri Lankan Military Says Air Force Destroyed Suicide Training Base

Sri Lankan military officials say air force jets destroyed a training base for Tamil Tiger rebels Thursday in the north of the country.

A Sri Lankan Air Force spokesman said the base was a "suicide training facility" in rebel-held territory in the jungle.

Also Thursday, Sri Lankan officials said at least four people were killed and 13 others wounded when a suicide bomber riding a bicycle blew himself up in the north.

The military blamed Tamil Tiger rebels for the attack, which happened in the northern Jaffna peninsula.

Sri Lanka's government formally pulled out of a 2002 Norwegian-brokered cease-fire with the rebels earlier this month.

At least 70,000 people have been killed since the rebels began fighting for an independent homeland in 1983 - claiming discrimination by Sri Lanka's majority-Sinhalese population. The Tamil Tigers already control much of the island's north.

Oncogenes and Cancer

In some tumors, for example, the Fos transcription protein dimerizes with the Jun transcription factor to form the AP1 transcription factor, and this complex increases the expression of several genes that control cell division.21,22

Chromosomal translocations often activate transcription-factor genes in lymphoid cancers23 and sometimes do so in solid tumors (e.g., prostate cancer24; see Table 2 in the Supplementary Appendix). In certain sarcomas, chromosomal translocations that result in fused proteins occur consistently; in Ewing's sarcoma, for example, the EWS gene is fused with one of a number of partner genes, resulting in aberrant transcriptional activity of the fused proteins (see Table 2 in the Supplementary Appendix). The EWS protein is an RNA-binding molecule with a domain that, when fused to a heterologous DNA-binding domain, can greatly stimulate gene transcription.

Oconee County police blotter

Damage: On Feb. 15, deputy William Elrod was dispatched after 6 p.m. to meet with the owner of some forested land off Rockingwood Drive. The man showed Elrod where someone had destroyed a deer curtain valued at $400. Elrod thought the damage was done by either a sword or machete and he could see a path cut to the site in the woods, apparently with the same blade. Elrod followed the hacked path to the back of a home on Spartan Lane. He went to the front door, which was open. Elrod announced his presence, but no one answered the door, so he entered to see if anyone was inside. In a bedroom, he saw a large sword with bits of tree sap still on the blade. Elrod secured the home, then returned to the crime scene to speak to the property owner. After returning to the scene of the crime, the deputy could see headlights pulling up to the house on Spartan Lane, so Elrod returned and introduced himself to the man and his teenage son.

MLB Commissioner Selig to Speak at Bethany College Graduation

Miller said Monday. ‘‘As the state's oldest private college, Bethany has been a small college of national distinction,'' Miller said. ‘‘It is fitting and proper that our graduates have the opportunity to hear firsthand from the leader of our national pastime.'' Selig was elected the ninth commissioner of baseball on July 9, 1998, by a unanimous vote of the 30 Major League Baseball club owners. Credited for keeping baseball in Milwaukee, Selig, a Milwaukee native, was the team owner and president of the Milwaukee Brewers prior to being becoming commissioner. After the Milwaukee Braves moved to Atlanta in 1965, Selig founded Teams Inc. The group, which later changed its name to The Brewers, was an organization dedicated to returning Major League baseball to Milwaukee. In 1970, a Seattle bankruptcy court awarded the Seattle Pilots franchise to Selig and his investors.
