FCC hearings: Comcast versus Vuze

The FCC held its hearing on Comcast's Network Management practices at Harvard University yesterday. Vuze executive Gilles BianRosa whose company filed one of the two FCC complaints against Comcast reportedly told the FCC yesterday that BitTorrent does not hog bandwidth. Since most Internet experts would dispute that claim, I generated the following hard data on the bandwidth consumption of various applications that run on the Internet.

Note: Richard Bennett who was an expert panelist at yesterday's hearings informed me that BianRosa claimed that BitTorrent didn't exceed the contracted limit.

Marvel puts old comics online

Comics will be proffered online Nov. 13, viewed through a web browser. They will not be downloadable.

Marvel is hoping fans will get hooked and be willing to shell out $9.99 US a month, or $4.99 US a month with an annual membership, for the privilege of viewing old issues online. About 2,500 issues will be available at first with 20 more released each week.

Fans will be treated to the first 100 issues of Stan Lee's 1963 Amazing Spider-Man series and other titles such as House of M and Young Avengers.

The move comes after Marvel's two competitors began showcasing their products online.

Dark Horse comics puts monthly anthologies for free viewing on its MySpace site.

DC Comics offers weekly peeks at the first few pages of upcoming issues.

Clinton, Obama agree on changing trade pact

Could I just point out that, in the last several debates, I seem to get the first question all the time?" Clinton said. "And I don't mind. You know, I'll be happy to field them, but I do find it curious. And if anybody saw 'Saturday Night Live', you know, maybe we should ask Barack if he's comfortable and needs another pillow.

"I just find it kind of curious that I keep getting the first question on all of these issues, but I'm happy to answer it."

Later, she returned to the historic nature of her candidacy: "Obviously I am thrilled to be running to be the first woman president, which I think would be a sea change in our country and around the world, and would give . . . enormous hope and, you know, a real challenge to the way things have been done, and who gets to do them, and what the rules are."

Obama came into the debate needing to not make an error that could reinvigorate Clinton's campaign.

The Audacity of Hopelessness

Nader has always been my favorite. But this time I'm voting for Obama. I'm impressed with his get-it-done "mean machine". I laughed when Hillary belated learned about Texas' nutty primary-caucus allocation of delegates. I knew about it weeks before she did, and I'm sure the Obama campaign had informed themselves about it long before. If each of them runs a presidency the way they run campaigns, it's obvious which one of them we're better off with.
